Furthermore, God promised release from captivity to the Ammonites, Moabites and Elamites
(Jeremiah 48:47; 49:6, 39). The Ammonites and Moabites assimilated with the Arabs and are now possibly some of the Palestinians. The Elamites are considered to be the Iranians. Many of these peoples are in a spiritual captivity and call themselves slaves of God. God’s plan with them is that they will all get to know Him as their Heavenly Father. The parable of the lost son gives a powerful example of God’s love. The Dutch writer Henri Nouwen aptly called it the parable of the Merciful Father.
